Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the public version of the National Security Policy of Pakistan at a ceremony in the Prime Minister Office on Friday.
The launch ceremony was attended by ministers, commanders of armed forces, heads of Pakistani security agencies, ambassadors of various countries, including the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Hosseini, and representatives of the international media.
Prime Minister Imran Khan in his keynote address explained the significance of his government’s successful initiative of producing the National Security Policy. Prime Minister said that the National Security Policy was a major priority of his government.
Prime Minister explained that the foremost aim of our foreign policy and military capability will remain peace and stability in the region and beyond. Our foreign policy will also focus much more on economic diplomacy going forward.
National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf in his remarks briefly explained the National Security Policy vision and thanked the Prime Minister and all officials for their constant support.
Moeed Yusuf said that the National Security Policy has taken a broad view of national security as both traditional and non-traditional issues impacted our security. While the National Security Policy is centered around economic security, the geo-strategic and geo-political imperatives also feature prominently to strengthen Pakistan security and standing in the world, he remarked.
The policy says Pakistan enjoys historical and religious ties with Iran. As neighbors, Pakistan and Iran continue to share interests in border management and regional peace and stability. “Improving intelligence sharing and patrolling of border areas will have a positive effect on bilateral ties,” said the document.
The new policy, referring to Pakistan's strong ties with China and Russia and efforts to establish peace in South Asia, relations with the United States, stated Pakistan does not subscribe to ‘camp politics’.
“We seek to diversify this relationship through mutually beneficial engagements,” it said.
It said Pakistan will continue to seek areas of convergence with the United States in trade, investment, connectivity, energy, counter-terrorism, security and intelligence cooperation.
